Canary Detector is a smart air monitor that monitors air quality, everyday health hazards, pollution and emergencies like fire and carbon monoxide so you can stay connected and protected in your home. Canary Detector gives you the information you need, exactly when you need it. All while looking beautiful on your wall or ceiling.
Is the air you’re breathing as fresh as it can be? Will your allergies or asthma act up? Is someone smoking while you’re away? Our helpful insights help you prevent small particles PM2.5, stop VOCs & remove stale air CO2.
What if you could rent an apartment or buy a house knowing the air quality? We’re creating a new data set for the city to let you breathe a little easier.
Silence your alarm straight from your phone. Instead of trying to climb on a chair to touch the ceiling, the power is in your hands.
Instead of only showing emergency spikes, we show exposure over time. This minimizes dangers to those most at risk: children and the elderly.
Canary is a smart smoke detector that looks beautiful on a wall and connects you to the information you need to know. Whether it’s your breathing air quality or alerts about a fire or exposure to carbon monoxide, Canary broadcasts chirps to give you the information you need, exactly when you need it.
Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night because your smoke detector was screeching? We’re here to solve that. Alerts are sent right to your phone where you are explained the situation. Maybe the battery is low, or maybe it’s an emergency. We let you know through the Canary webapp, which is connected directly to our Arduino device prototype.

Imagine renting an apartment or buying a home and knowing the air quality of the place first. We’ve developed a brand-new data set for New York City to let us do exactly that. It’s available through a RESTful web API that is well-documented and publicly available. With devices all over the city, we’ll be able to start monitoring how air is impacting our daily lives. And with an API, any developer can add to it. But we’ve also gathered open city data to track outdoor air quality. Thanks to data sets from AirNow, DEC, Health, and others for providing the data.
It’s estimated that 6% of deaths in the city are due to poor air quality. This is unacceptable. It’s our goal to push the dial on cleaner air with tangible, actionable information. Whether you’re asthmatic, sensitive to pollen, or in an acutely risky area, we’re here to make sure that you can breathe a little easier. And we’re partnering with the city and major companies to do so. Stay tuned to learn more.
It’s safe to cook again. No false alarms from burnt toast or sirens from fresh showers.
Up until now, a low-battery beep at 2am has been a standard feature for a smoke alarm. It’s terrible and we’ve finally put a stop to it.
Is your little brother watching your place? Renting on Airbnb, VRBO, or HomeAway? We’ll tell you if we smell any problem, even a cigarette.
